Yes, these are long. No, they're not as long as usual. And as always, I still think it's best to have everything out in the open right from the start of The Pilot (Not The Pilot) Episode. You only have to read these once and sign the thread, but will always be able to return to check things. Just like any other contract your agent insists you read before signing, and you don't really want to do much more than skim but also you don't really trust your agent so you have to suck it up and comb through everything just in case they stuck a clause in there turning them into the author of your book, as a 'joke' that will actually be a serious problem if you're too lazy to catch it.
1. Privacy and Security
A. The Goes Wrong ORG is strictly Closed-ID. Players may never compromise their identity in any way to anyone inside or outside the Game. This is to keep a fair and level playing field for all.
B. Communication about the Game outside of this board is not permitted, unless it is with one of the Crew members.
C. Speculation about the identity of other players is forbidden, outside of your private Confessional. Even there, we urge you not to let ID speculations impact your gameplay.
D. Please refrain from making references or comments which could allow others to narrow down who you are outside of this Game. This includes references to where you signed up from or particular ORGs you have played in previously. General comments with no specific or provable information (such as "I've played many ORGs over the years") are allowed, though of course they may not necessarily be true.
E. We expect you to notify us immediately if you witness or are approached about anything which could contravene the Closed-ID rules. A breach will result in removal from the game.
F. The use of proxies, bots and other similar programs are not permitted on this board. You should also never give anybody else access to your account here. If you have an unavoidable reason to be browsing the board while using a proxy please discuss it with the Crew immediately.
G. Do not alter any of the account settingson your profile page; everything has been set as is for a specific reason. If you nevertheless wish to make a change, you must first ask the Head Righter and receive permission.
2. Activity
A. While we encourage everyone to be online as much as possible, we understand and hope that there are aspects of your lives going Right, elsewhere. At a minimum, we expect players to complete Challenges and always Vote or submit Decisions before the relevant deadlines. Of course, the core of this game is social interaction and sufficient time communicating with the other Actors is expected, not least by them.
B. This Game is intentionally being run Non-Live, on no particular timezone. We expect you to take the spirit of that decision in stride, and not to hold it against anyone that they are unable to be online at a particular point in time, when it is inevitable that everyone will find some deadlines inconvenient. To engender this atmosphere we've set all your accounts to 'invisible' mode. Nevertheless, we do expect everyone to check in regularly - at least once every 12 hours or to see if there are new announcements, and you should always be able to complete a Challenge when given 24 hours' notice before its deadline.
C. Extreme inactivity will result in your removal from the game, so as not to ruin the experience for others. This applies to players who do not participate in the Game for three or more consecutive days, or fail to submit Votes/Decisions/Challenges multiple times, or are consistently absent without prior notification.
D. The ideal solution for extreme inactivity is being voted out by default. However, if it becomes necessary to remove a player from the game without a Vote, the Crew may do so at a time of our own choosing.
E. We also reserve the right to replace any player who does not log on during the first round of the game. Should this occur, we will inform the entire cast that a replacement has joined.
3. Challenges
A. There will be a Challenge in most rounds, though exactly what each kind of safety or power a Challenge grants may vary from round to round. Challenge deadlines will never fall on Fridays or Saturdays.
B. All Challenges must be finished before the deadline. This means that starting thirty seconds before the deadline and finishing several minutes after it elapses would not count as completing a Challenge.
C. Discussing a Challenge while it is ongoing is forbidden. With everyone competing at times which best suit them, we do not want some players to gain an advantage based on when they are/n't available, so you cannot offer nor seek advice about Challenges. Even after you have completed a Challenge, you should still refrain from discussing it with others, regardless of whether they claim to have also completed it - please wait until the deadline has passed.
D. In the even that some specific Challenges require limited communication of some kind, the kinds of permitted communication will be clearly outlined for you. Challenge discussion within those bounds may then occur as, and only as, you are directed.
E. To begin most Challenges, you will need to add yourself to a specific Member Group, a mechanic used to preserve Game integrity. To join a Member Group, navigate to your Profile, then the Groups tab and press the button to join the appropriate Group. Returning to the home page will then give you access to a new subforum containing everything you need to start playing the Challenge, which you should continue doing in your Confessional board's Challenge thread.
F. The Crew will be able to see when you joined the Challenge's designated Member Group by viewing the forum's security log, and will use that as your start time - if the Challenge is time-based, we will record the period between the Member Group being joined and your completion of the Challenge. Note that as the security log is only visible to the Crew, you will need to keep track of their time on your own.
G. You should only join the Member Group when you are ready to compete. If you accidentally join it early, the moment you joined will stand as your starting time regardless. We recommend that you ask any and all questions about a Challenge before competing as once you have joined the Member Group, the Crew will be unable to assist you.
H. Do not leave any Member Group you join for a Challenge or any other purpose, unless you are explicitly told that it is a Member Group you can or must leave.
I. Some Challenges will involve the use of Trigger phrases (we will always embolden these, use capital letters without spaces, and put these in quotation marks, such as "TESTTHISTRIGGERPLEASE") which when posted will transform into some new aspect of the Challenge. Triggers may only be posted in your Confessional, unless you are directed otherwise. Posting a Trigger where you should not will amount to a disqualification and earn you a DNF for the Challenge.
J. Sometimes you will need to post images during Challenges. Broken IMG tags and similar issues will not be given consideration; if the Crew cannot see an image, it is not going to count. The same Rule applies to anything which you are instructed to format in a particular way - your answer must be formatted correctly to count.
K. In the spirit of the Game, please do not try to cheat in Challenges or do anything which is questionable but not technically forbidden. The Crew will be doing their best to ensure that Challenges cannot be seen in advance by hacking around permissions, circumvented in any way by coding, completed via automation, etc. If we've done our jobs correctly anyone trying to do so will waste far more time than they will gain, but nevertheless we ask you not to try.
L. There may be instances where the Crew will need to make judgement calls while running or scoring a Challenge. There may be decisions which must or will likely satisfy some and dismay others. We can assure you that all such decisions will be made in as unbiased and fair a manner as possible. Once the potential issue has been identified and resolved, all such decisions will be final.
4. Votes and Decisions
A. There will be Votes to cast in most rounds. In some rounds there may be other formal Decisions you must make in addition to, or instead of a Vote.
B. In your Confessional you will find a thread titled "Votes". Simply post the name of the person you wish to vote off in that thread. You may also leave a comment (enclosed in "quotation marks") which may be read anonymously when your vote is revealed. We strongly encourage you to date your Votes and specify the round or Episode number for which you are casting the Vote, to make it easier for the Crew to identify and tally.
C. Any time you are asked to decide or submit something that is neither a Vote, nor a Challenge, it must be posted in your designated Confessional thread titled "Decisions".
D. You may leave a Vote or submit a Decision any amount of time in advance for the current Episode, from the moment the round is announced to begin and its format is confirmed. Your Vote can be changed as many times as you wish up until the designated voting deadline, which will also never occur on a Friday or Saturday. Most Decisions can also be changed up until the deadline, and if this is not the case you will be informed in advance that the specific Decision will be considered final when posted for the first time.
E. After the Vote or submission deadline passes, any posts you make in those threads will not count. If you have posted a Vote or Decision more than once during the round of play, your last post before the deadline will be taken as final. If you do not place a valid Vote by the deadline, you will receive a self-vote to be tallied against yourself. There will be similar penalties for failing to submit Decisions, depending on what they are for.
F. You may (and will often be encouraged ore even required to) leave an ordered voting list of backup pre-votes, in case your first choice to vote for becomes ineligible to receive Votes - for instance, if they become Immune or a tie occurs with the revote which does not involve them. In the event of a tie, or any other scenario which would invalidate your first preference, we will deem your Vote to have been cast against the highest name on your list still eligible to receive votes.
5. Eliminations
A. After a voting deadline is reached and the outcome announced, the player voted out will be given a moment to make one farewell post before being moved out of their Tribe group, if they are online.
B. In the event of a tied vote tally, the default procedure is that all players who do not share the highest number of votes will have a short period of time to revote, up until a new deadline which will be announced by the Crew. If you do not amend your Vote following the initial tie, it will count for the same player as beforehand (unless they are ineligible to receive Votes, in which case we will follow your pre-vote list).
C. If the result of any revote is a tie between the same players, the default tiebreaker is a form of random elimination between all players not tied for elimination, excepting any players safe by other means. Everyone else will each select a numbered prop, one of which is rigged to explode, and the player holding it will be deemed to be eliminated.
D. In rounds where the voting procedure is less straightforward than a typical Survivor vote, there may be different tiebreaker mechanisms in place. If this is the case, you will be told what they are in advance.
6. Items
A. If and when any kind of Items or Advantages are in play, they will be represented by an image, which may be posted in a voting thread (or elsewhere, according to their instructions) before a certain deadline.
B. Each Item can only be in the possession of a single person at any time and this will be monitored by the Crew. Only the person who is considered in possession of an Item will be able to play it successfully (even if someone else manages to post the correct image). Anyone in possession of an Item will know that it is theirs, and will be given a comprehensive set of instructions surrounding that Item.
C. If any kind of Hidden Immunity Idol is in play there will be a designated period during which it can be posted, after the Votes are final but before they are revealed. After this period the Crew will publicly verify the HII's legitimacy and then proceed to tally the votes; if the Idol negates a plurality of the votes, the player with the next highest number of votes cast against them will be voted out.
D. Players in possession of an Item or Advantage may ask the Crew to play it on their behalf, should they expect to be offline during the designated time window for doing so.
E. It may be possible to transfer Advantages and Items from one player to another. The exact process will be outlined for anyone who holds an Item, but in short: If both parties to the transfer may communicate privately, a transfer can occur with nobody but them knowing about it. If players can communicate in some manner other than PMs, a transfer may still be possible in those less private forums. Officially transferred Items will pass into the possession of the player to whom they were assigned.
F. Once a player is eliminated from the Game, any Items or Advantages in their possession will leave the Game with them, unless otherwise specified; these may no longer be transferred to another player.
7. Posting
A. Do not edit, rewrite or delete any of your posts. This is a serious breach of the Rules because it goes against the core of this Game - to try to get as close to a real experience of Survivor (or whatever else) as is possible over the internet.
B. The forum we use records all incidents of post editing and deletion, so we will be able to tell if you do either. Breaching this rule inadvertently will result in a warning, but continued or willful editing/deletion will receive a penalty ranging from the temporary removal of your right to communicate up to removal from the game.
8. Messaging
A. Rules for who you are allowed to exchange Private Missives (PMs) with, when, and how, may differ from round to round. At the start of every Episode, please read through all instructions carefully before messaging, and never assume that you are allowed to do so until you have been explicitly told that your communications remain unrestricted.
B. Players still in the game may not PM anyone who is out of the game (eliminated players and Audience members). This rule also applies to group PMs, so if someone in a group chat is eliminated (or out of contact for another reason, such as being on a different Tribe), a new chat thread must be started without them before any new Missives may be sent.
C. Anyone eliminatedfrom the game may only send private missives to the Crew.
D. All messages sent must include the 'Chimera Man' account as a recipient. This is for monitoring purposes, to ensure that no Rules are being broken. If you forget this when starting a new message thread, the Chimera Man can still be added in a subsequent message - be sure to do so. The Crew have access to your accounts and will be checking to ensure that this has happened.
E. You may not take screenshots of Private Missives and share them in public or in messages with other players; they are between the sender and the recipient(s) alone, and Private Missives - like face to face conversations - cannot be experienced by those not present.
F. Directly quoting from PMs by copy-pasting and/or using the quote function is also against the Rules, and further it can be faked. To keep the game as close as possible to real-life Games, such actions are prohibited, and you are encouraged to paraphrase instead.
G. For similar reasons, deleting Private Missives is also forbidden. This applies to all Missives sent and received.
H. If you are found to have breached PM confidentiality, you will receive a penalty from the Crew, no questions asked, regardless of the circumstances.
I. All of the Rules surrounding PMs also apply to other forms of communication which some players can see but others cannot. For instance, you may not take screenshots or quote from text posts to anyone unable to access the original conversation. So posts from one Tribe's board should not be quoted where players outside of that Tribe could see it, and content shared by the Crew in your Confessional should not be quoted verbatim.
9. Behaviour
A. While adult humour is fun here and there, too much of it can be problematic. We expect you to use your better judgment when making mature or sexual jokes, and remain aware that there may be people in this game below the age of 18.
B. Bigotry and slurs - sexual, racial, or other - will not be tolerated in any form. Even satire is no longer fun if it goes too far, and there may be players present of all backgrounds and ages. Malicious and adult content is not welcome here. In addition, the Crew reserves the right to penalise anyone who violates Proboards' Terms of Service which are extremely detailed in this area specifically.
C. Threatening another player's life or well-being outside of the Game is absolutely not tolerated in any form, including as a 'joke'. It may lead to immediate removal from the Game. We're all here to have fun; don't ruin someone else's.
Finally, please sign these Rules to indicate that you have read and understood them - simply leave a post in this thread.
You may of course return at any time to review these Rules, and can ask the Crew whenever you find yourself uncertain about something.
