Manure boy, you look so thin, so pale, so ghoulish. Not goulash!
Everyone here knows the rules to the child's game Stove Boy Wig, right?
Two opponents select one of those three options:
And then the winner is determined by the obvious triangle of domination between these three natural forces:
Boy smothers Stove
Stove burns Wig
Wig distracts Boy
Stove burns Wig
Wig distracts Boy
So if one competitor played Wig, and the other Stove. Then whoever played Stove would be the winner. Wig always beats Boy, and Boy always beats Stove, and so on ad infinitum. If both players select Stove, then we'd have a draw. So too if both players selected Wig, or both chose Boy. This can all be visualised in one stunning diagram, like so:
Now. In Betting Stove Boy Wig, our two new Manure Boys Chris as Prince Richard and Chris as Ebenezer Scrooge will play 8 Rounds of Stove Boy Wig, but they will not play against one another. Instead, each Round will consist of just one Manure Boy play against some other Opponent, while the other Manure Boy places a bet upon the outcome. Again. And again. And again...
Here is the lineup of Opponents to be faced in each of the 8 Rounds:
So in Round 1, one of the Manure boys will face off against Vanessa as Camille LeClaire. In Round 2, the Opponent will be Aunt Diana Rigg as Narrator.
You can also see that the Opponent in Round 4 will be Sir David Suchet as Narrator, and in Round 8 it will be Robert as Irrelevant Trumpeter.
For Rounds 3, 5 and 6 we've resurrected the underwhelming AI from your Blue Planet Days. Due to
In the other Rounds though, it will be up to each
Then they are free to tell others what they have chosen, if they wish to do so. They may tell both Manure Boys what to expect from their move. Or just one of them. Or neither. Or perhaps they will be intentionally misleading. It's entirely up to them, so long as they stick within the PM limitations laid out in the Format thread.
In Round 7, the Opponent will be an amalgam of the six current residents of the Critics' Corner: Jonathan as Ol' Neighbour Joe, Max as the Crocodile, Robert as Justice Shawcroft, Dennis as Deer Head, @margaretand Annie as Mrs. Wimblegate.
They'll all vote to decide which move to make, and whichever move receives the most Votes will be the one made on behalf of the Critics as a whole. They too will be allowed to communicate with the Manure Boys... though in an even more limited fashion: each Critic may send one word, to one of the Manure Boys. I'll facilitate the process with them, and then pass on their (up to six) words to the Manure Boys.
So those will be your Opponents, all of whom will lock in their moves before we actually begin playing the Rounds, so that you can potentially find out their moves in advance. I'll note that their positions in the lineup of Rounds was determined by a random draw.
Now let's look at how the Rounds will operate.
When we begin, each of our competing Manure Boys will receive one Clump of Manure:
And their goal will be to end up with more Clumps of Manure than the other Manure boy, after 8 Rounds.
Each Round will have a 'Starting Player', which will alternate between the two Manure Boys. The first Starting Player will be chosen by Scrooge, for finishing The Escape? with more points on the Inebriation Index than Richard. And whoever is the Starting Player for Round 1 will also be the Starting player in all the odd numbered rounds; the other Manure Boy will be the Starting Player for the even numbered Rounds.
When we begin playing each Round, the Starting Player must choose one of two roles for that Round: they can either Bet, or Battle. The other Manure Boy will receive whichever role was not chosen by the Starting Player.
Whoever is in the 'Battle' role must choose to a move to make - either Stove, Boy or Wig - against whatever move that Round's Opponent has chosen.
After a Bet has also been locked in (see below) we will reveal what moves the Battler and Opponent have selected. If the move made by the Manure Boy in the Battle role loses to the Opponent's move, or if it is a draw, then the Battler receives: nothing.
But if the Battler wins the Round (i.e. their chosen move beats the Opponent's move), they will receive a prize: a set number of Clumps of Manure. That set number will depend on which Round they have just played:
A win in Rounds 1 or 2 will earn 1 Clump of Manure,
A win in Rounds 3 or 4 will earn 2 Clumps of Manure,
A win in Rounds 5 or 6 will earn 3 Clumps of Manure, and
A win in Rounds 7 or 8 will earn 4 Clumps of Manure.
A win in Rounds 3 or 4 will earn 2 Clumps of Manure,
A win in Rounds 5 or 6 will earn 3 Clumps of Manure, and
A win in Rounds 7 or 8 will earn 4 Clumps of Manure.
After the Battler has selected their move, but before we reveal what it is, the Manure Boy in the 'Bet' role will need to place one of three Bets:
- They can Bet that the Battler will win, with a move defeating the Opponent's move,
- They can Bet that the Battler will lose, with the Opponent's move defeating the Battler's, or
- They can Bet that the Battler and the Opponent will draw, by selecting the same move.
The Better can choose how many Manure Clumps to Bet upon their chosen outcome, so long as they Bet at least one Manure Clump. (If at any point one of Manure Boys has zero Manure Clumps, they will be unable to Bet. So they would need to Battle every Round until they have earned at least one Manure Clump with which to bet.)
Once the Bet is locked in, we will reveal the moves made by the Battler and their Opponent, and then pay out the Better's prediction as follows:
- If the Better correctly predicts that the Battler has won or lost, then the Clumps of Manure they bet will be doubled. So if they bet 3 Clumps of Manure, they wold receive 6 back, for a net gain of 3 Clumps of Manure.
- However, if the Better's prediction was for the Round was incorrect, all the Clumps of Manure they bet will be taken away from them.
- If the Better manages to correctly predict a Draw, then the Clumps of Manure they bet upon that outcome will be tripled. So if they bet 3 Clumps of Manure on the draw, they would receive 9 back, for a net gain of 6 Clumps of Manure.
After paying out the Bet (if it was correct) and/or the Battler (if they won), we would announce the updated total number of Clumps of Manure held by each Manure Boy, and the move on to the next Round.
At the end of 8 Rounds, whichever Manure Boy has the most Clumps of Manure will be returned into the Game.
Right on time for the start of Episode 13.
Right on time for the start of Episode 13.
Whichever Manure Boy has the fewest Clumps of Manure will sink into their own shit until they find they have emerged into the Critics' Corner.
Which, yes, is somehow even worse.
Which, yes, is somehow even worse.
In the event of a tie following Round 4, we would add two more bonus Rounds and proceed to play them out.
The timing of all this is potentially flexible, but here is my first proposal for the Manure Boys:
- All the Opponents lock in their moves ASAP, ideally by Friday night.
- You'll have all of Saturday (at least) to PM with the others and plan your approach to this game.
- Whenever you can both be online on Sunday, we'll play out all 8 Rounds together.
If that cannot work, we'll find another way/time to play this out. With the last resort being that we go entirely non-live, at the risk of stretching out every step of every round (Starting Player chooses their role, Battler locks in their move, Better locks in their bet, moves and payouts are revealed, repeat X 8) and potentially taking days to finish.
If anyone has any questions, please ask away!
And I'll update everyone once I've heard back from both Manure Boys and can lock in the timeline.
